Go through the following list of questions to see if you can find the solution to that doubt that still does not let you register for the winter camp.
Try to find your questions in this list. If it is not there, send us the question.
From March 9 to March 15, 2025
Welcome on Sunday 9th from 3pm
Departure on Saturday 15th until 7pm
It is in Palamós, Catalunya, Spain, EU. North East Spain in the Mediterranean Sea.
By plane to Barcelona or Girona.
Then rent a car or take a bus.
By car following the directions on your navigator to Palamós.
The accommodation is located on La Fosca beach, 5 minutes by car from the town centre, 20 minutes on foot. In front of the sea.
Accommodation is included in the registration. We will take care of reserving the house and assigning you a room.
No problem, that’s your right. Please indicate this at the registration because obviously the price is not the same. Although I must tell you that we have got a good price for the accommodation and what this resort in La Fosca offers. But look around, compare and if you find something better, take it.
Yes, they are shared rooms unless it is your explicit wish to be alone. But then there is an extra charge for this since it leaves us without more beds for more participants.
Great!!! You are all welcome. Tell us which group you are in and we will try to place you in the same house. All the houses are very close together in the same area. Also tell us if you want to be with your friends in the same room.
No problem. We just ask for an extra cost of 200€ per extra person for house expenses and you will be in a shared room. It will also be included in the final dinner on the last day.
There will be bedding in the house, but there will be no towels, soap, food or toilet paper after the first supplies have been finish.
There is a kitchen with its utensils, heating and other services.
The activities will initially take place in Palamós at the Port Marina Palamós. But each day depends on the conditions, the needs of the course, and what the instructor thinks. It is possible that the activity can be moved to another place on the Costa Brava. It is more likely that some of the days we move just to discover this wonderful coast.
It is cool to moderate in March in Palamós with an average temperature of 17°C. Temperatures in this month range from a minimum of 16°C to a maximum of 20°C. At night you can expect temperatures between 4°C and 8°C.
In March, an average of 47 mm of precipitation falls, spread over 7 days. The wind speed is 4 Bft and comes mainly from the Southeast.
We suggest dressing like an onion, with three layers in the morning, short sleeves at noon and putting the layers back on later.
The warmest sea in Palamós in March is 14.6°C, and the coldest sea surface temperature is 11.9°C in March. The average water temperature in Palamós in March is 13.2°C over the last 10 years. We leave it to you to decide whether it is cold or warm.
Basically, if you want to participate in the courses, yes, you need a kayak. If you don’t have one, please indicate when registering that you need a kayak.
Remember that there is an extra fee for the kayak hire.
You need to bring your kayaking gear and whatever you think you need for training. A helmet is highly recommended because you might find that the instructor won’t let you do some exercises without a helmet. As for clothing, it depends. If you’re interested in some incident management, definitely bring a dry suit if you have one. Spending time in the water is cool. If you don’t want to spend time in the water, my go-to outfit in March is my short cag with a short sleeve thermal shirt underneath or if it’s a bit cooler my reed aquatherm tuilik. And that’s enough for me. But I’m a hot paddler.
Ideally, come with all the equipment you need to carry out the courses. Typical examples.
Towlines: Essential if you want to do leadership courses and incident management workshops. You know that to be a good group member you should have a towline, but we do not consider it essential.
Helmet: The helmet will be mandatory to do certain exercises. If you do not have one, you may not be able to do these specific exercises.
Sprydeck: Even if you rent a kayak, bring your own sprydeck since we do not have 60 decks to rent with the kayaks.
If you are missing any of these, we can rent them, but please let us know in advance.
Don’t worry, the registration on levels is to have an idea of how to distribute the participants and the level of the instructors. If you want, send us an email asking about it and we will ask you about your objectives and we will place you in one level or another.
Congratulations, you have a clear goal. Depending on the certificate we need the conditions to carry it out, so right now we cannot guarantee an evaluation. However, I am sure that during the week we will have numerous opportunities to evaluate you correctly. We will have instructors who can certify you at many levels from several different organizations. SKUK Dragon level, PUK ex British Canoeing, NKV, etc etc … What else do you want? Tell us what your goal is and it will help us to see what level you need to be at and how we can help you to achieve it.
No, unfortunately we are not offering PUK ex British Canoeing leadership assessments. But we can prepare you for this. Sign up for our leadership course and I promise you won’t regret it. An assessment test can be taken and you will receive honest and sincere feedback from your instructor.
Great, we like that you want to have responsibilities at sea and want to train for it. Sign up for our leadership course and at the end of the week you will have a magnificent action plan to become the leader you want to be.
We haven’t really thought about organising activities after training. I think that hearing some jokes from Marc would be quite entertaining. However, we are looking to socialise the event, there will be a lecture by Chris Reed and then some small talks at the house or in the bar. During the final dinner on Friday we will have live music to close the week. We just hope that you are not too tired so that you don’t move your body.
Of course they are boring!! That’s why the small talks will not last longer than 15 – 20 minutes on a specific topic and will take place in a bar or in the village’s communal area with some drinks.
For the main lecture have Chris Reed about his 25 years of history and laughing will not be allowed during the lecture.
There is only one meal organised for everyone together. That is the one on Friday 14th. That will be all together at the Port Marina Palamós. At Ca l’Amadeu. For the rest of the meals you can have them at home, in some restaurant in the village alone or with someone. Officially there is nothing organised. Unofficially… everything is possible.
If you have any allergies, vegetarian or celiac diet, please do not forget to indicate it in the registration form. We do not want to end the last night in the wrong place!!!!
Wow, we’re starting with the weirdos. Get in touch with us directly to specify when and how you can come. Obviously, the accommodation and the organization of the courses are designed for people who come for the whole week, but we’ll keep you in mind too.
Because we are different. Well no, Marc is strange. He has the idea that he doesn’t like people asking for vacation days to travel, so that you can travel on the weekend and the week is for doing what you like the most, kayaking. The idea is to carry out a progressive and dedicated training, not just several workshops in two days. What we do in other symposiums is the course week, for us it is the main event, because we don’t just know how to have fun on a weekend. We know how to do it all week long!!!
We love you!!! and we need you!! We will probably organize day trips for people who want to take a more relaxed day, or simply already know everything like you. All of that depends on the logistics we have and we will know once we close the registrations. But I guarantee that there will be a guide available for daily trips.
